Tech Talk: Windows upgrades and how that affects your ID System
As you might know after April 8th/2014, support and security updates for Windows XP was no longer be available from Microsoft. What does that mean? In the words of Microsoft, "If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer should still work, but it will become five times more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. And as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, a greater number of programs and devices like cameras and printers won't work with Windows XP." That doesn't mean you need to buy a new computer. If the old XP computer meets the minimum requirements for Windows 7 or 8, you can upgrade it.

As you move away from Windows XP, be aware that there might be compatibility issues with older software and card printers. For customers in the Health Care industry, there are also HIPPA compliance issues associated with this (click here to read more). Older versions (4.x and below) of Jolly Technologies software (Lobby Track, ID Flow, Event Track, School Track, etc.) have reach their end-of-life and cannot be moved to Windows 7. EPISuite 5.x is not compatible with Windows 7 and EPISuite 6.x requires a special install to work on Windows 7. Some older printer models simply don't have Windows 7 drivers available.
